Home - Measure WW
Measure WW In July 2008, the East Bay Regional Park District Board of Directors voted to place Measure WW, a $500 million park bond extension measure, on the November 4 ballot. The proposition, which has the ballot designation of Measure WW, would replicate and extend the successful $225 million bond measure (Measure AA) passed in 1988 without raising the present property tax rates above the present rate of $10 per year, per $100,000. Of the $500 million raised by Measure WW, $375 million (75%) will fund regional park acquisitions and capital projects, with $26.2 million (7%) held in reserve for unanticipated future needs and opportunities. In addition, $125 million (25%) of proceeds will go to cities, special park and recreation districts, and county service areas for their park and recreation services. Livermore voters are not part of this extension tax as Murray Township was not within the East Bay Regional Park District's jurisdiction in the initial bond measure. The Park District continues to serve this community through new acquisitions of parklands. Interactive Map shows the the surrounding area of Dry Creek Regional Park system will recieve over 10 million in funding as follows: Dry Creek - $6.7 million to acquire and preserve scenic ridgelands in the Union City Hills along Walpert Ridge; complete the renovation of the historic Meyers Estate and garden for intimate community gatherings. Complete multi-use Ridge Trail connections Garin- $2.9 million to acquire and protect scenic ridges and wildlife habitat adjacent to Union City, Fremont, Hayward communities. Expand park trail system to improve recreational opportunities for all users and connect to the Ridge Trail. Garin to Pleasonton Ridge Trail - $2 million to acquire and construct trail connecting Garin to Pleasanton Ridge for hiking, biking and equestrian use. Ridge Trail - $12.7 million to acquire and construct trail corridor segments to close gaps in the existing 25-mile long East Bay Ridge Trail alignment. Provide a continuous trail connection through 16 regional parks from Martinez to Fremont. - (based on reviewing the map approx. 1/4 of the 12.7M say $3 million is closing the Ridge Trail gap in the proximity of Union City) The total investment from Measure WW directly benefiting Garin/Dry Creek parks and Union City is over $10 million. The City of Union City, East Bay Regional Park District and the Masonic Home and the community could work together and capitalize on this funding source to develop a unique project. Fact Sheet shows City of Union City will recieve an additinal $3.3 million in Measure WW funds for park improvements. http://www.ebparks.org/files/Bond_Measure_WW_Fact_Sheet_081508a.pdf |
